What is going on with people today?

Ok..I love fashion.  I love everything about fashion.  I feel that you should experiment with you fashion sense in every way possible.  Even though I am a fashion designer, I have always been a t-shirt/jeans kind of girl, but I try to dress it up differently from what is normally seen.  The reason why I am speaking of this is because something has sort of made me angry.

I am from a small town, even though it is a college town, it is still very small.  The area where I live, which is 15 miles away from my hometown, is also very small, and the people in this town, I hate to say it, are ignorant. Since moving back home to MS, I have noticed that people cannot experiment with fashion in a way they should.  Why? The reason is that people in these communities are very judgemental!  For example, androgyny is one of the biggest trends in the fashion industry.  I love the androgynous look.  Here are some examples.

LOVE these looks, but if you are a female and you want to dress like this in my community, you are considered gay!  I feel that is so stupid!!  I don't understand why people in small towns put you in a box. You should be yourself, no matter what.  Another example, the biker trend, which is another trend that I have fallen in love with. Here are some examples.

Again, fabulous trend, but in my community, people will automatically assume that you are a biker, which I will say again, STUPID!! This is a fashion trend!!!! 

With everything that I talked about concerning fashion trends and judgemental people, I have to say this: no matter where you live, LOVE YOURSELF AND BE YOURSELF!!! Experiment and explore with your fashion sense, and do not be concerned with what people are saying about it!! If you feel like adapting to the bohemian style, do it! If you feel like adapting to the dominatrix style, do it! Experiment with fashion and be comfortable with who you are!! If people are talking about what you are wearing, it means you are doing something great!!

1950s Fashion

I LOVE the fashion of the 50s!!! All of the garments made the woman look spectacular.  Fitted dresses and skirts, cinched waistlines, pencil skirts, etc.  I am getting so excited just thinking about the garments from the 50s.  To those of you who don't know what I am talking about when it comes to 50s fashion, here are some examples.

Just gorgeous!!!! To all of my viewers, if you do not know how the fashion of the 1950s evolved, here is the story.  After WWII ended in 1945, women were tired of dressing like they were in the military (everything, including pantyhose, had to be donated to support and fund the war).  So in 1947, Christian Dior created the "New Look" for the next decade, which included a fitted blazer with a cinched waist, and a full skirt to create the "hourglass" figure.  This look was created to enhance the classic elegance in women's fashion.

When this look was created, of course people were offended because "it was too much fabric used for the skirt," but more women demanded this look to celebrate freedom.  Another look that was created during the 50s, the Trapeze Shirt (and dress), aka the maternity shirt!!  After WWII, more people were getting married and having babies, so the maternity shirt was born. 

 

Lucille Ball was the first woman to popularize the Trapeze Shirt when her pregnancy was shown throughout her TV show, "I Love Lucy".  Here is a picture of Lucille Ball, with her husband, Desi Arnaz, wearing the Trapeze Shirt.

So many beautiful garments were created to show the woman's figure, and I am so happy the these looks are still being modernized.  Another thing that I have noticed is that a lot of unique hats were worn throughout the 50s.  Perfect example:

Still Working

Hello,

To whoever is reading this blog, I have finished the first part of my project.  If you were reading last year, I told you all that I was working on a vintage menswear golf collection for women.  I hate to say this, but I had taken a long break from this project.  Although I am still working on this collection, I have finished the illustrations.

Here are two of the illustrations.  I still have to finish the flats, moodboard, and color story.  I will put up the link at a later time so you can view everything.

Love of New Website

Hello!

To anyone who is looking at this blog, I want to say that I have fallen in love!! The name of my new favorite website is called Black Girls Killing It, www.blackandkillingit.com.  It shows African American women with numerous shapes and size ranges showing their love of fashion, and their true style.  For anyone who is looking for a style change, I recommend this site.  The garments worn are designer, hand made, discount, etc.  No matter what it is, the women style it and make it effortless.

I was amazed at all of the garments I had seen, and how well they were put together.  I suggest that you please look at this website, follow them on Twitter and Instagram @BGKIonline, and look for their page on Facebook.

Hot!!!

 So, I went to Belk today in Tupelo, MS.  While looking around I was mesmerized by this picture.

I was really mesmerized by the detail of the back of the shirt (I apologize for how blurry the shirt is.  It happened when I tried to blow up the picture).

Although I am not flat enough at the top to wear this, I especially loved this suit.

New Project

Hello again!!

So, as I stated before, I love all things art and fashion, which is why I made it my career choice.  I am working on a new project to try and keep myself updated in the fashion world until I find my job as an assistant or associate designer, or until I start my own fashion empire.  This new project that I am doing is a 12 look womenswear business casual collection.  It is inspired from vintage menswear golf and tennis apparel.  For the people who have no idea what I am talking about, here are some examples:

I have found two new websites that I have absolutely fallen in love with, which I found these pictures from.  One website is called foxhuntmenswear.blogspot.com.  This is a menswear blog site and they have different pictures of vintage golf apparel from the 1920s and 30s that are amazing. They also have pictures of many current menswear trends.  The other website is called pret-a-putter.tumblr.com.  This is a womenswear blog site dedicate to women golfers who want the vintage golf attire, but more feminine and sexy.  With all of the research that I have found, I created many different looks for this collection.  

The project is not colored yet, but  when it is finished, I will put it on my website for public view. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Although I am not a New Yorker, I love this picture!

I saw this in Ross as well.  As you can see, there were many portraits and paintings that inspired me when I was in the store today.  I pray that I am working here as a fashion designer very soon!
