1960s Fashion

Hello All,

Its time for the favorite decades session again!  If you have been following my blog, you will know that I have favorite decades that have inspired so many fashion trends, and have made fashion history.  I have told you all about the 50's, and 20's fashion trends that were very popular, now I will tell you about the 60's fashion trends.

The 60's. The era that changed American history.  This was the time when the Civil Rights Movement was stronger than ever.  Not only was there a change in the way African Americans were treated, but there was a change in the fashion trends as well.  I will briefly discuss some of these 1960s trends and how they had defined the fashion industry during that time.

The Mini Skirt

According to www.fashion-era.com, the mini skirt was not actually introduced into the fashion world until 1966, and became popular in 1967, and it is still debated as to who is the original designer of the mini-skirt; Mary Quant, John Bates, or André Courrèges.  This fashion garment is considered one of the "defining fashions of the 1960s."

Pillbox Hat

This hat was popularized by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and actress Audrey Hepburn.  This hat also defined 1960's fashion trends.

Cigarette Pants

These skinny pants were popularized by stay-at-home wives for her daywear activities.  No woman had ever worn pants since Coco Chanel had worn them during the 1920s as a fashion statement, but after 1963, more women were adding these pants to their wardrobe.

Mod Style

A youth subculture of the early to mid-1960s, this style was derived from a small group of London-based stylish young men in the late 1950s who were termed modernists because they listened to modern jazz.  After the sixties, everyone had started wearing this trend.

Other Trends That Were Popular During This Time

Bright Colors/Prints

Bohemian

Large Sunglasses

Beehive Hairstyle

Afro
*actually came in the 60's, but wasn't popularized until 70's

Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did researching it.

Until Next Time!!
